Description
Hand-forged tweezers gourd shape made using traditional Japanese techniques, made by Kurata tweezers blacksmiths family.
Kurata Yonekichirou, the founder of Kurata Seisakusho, apprenticed to Asakusa(Tokyo) tweezers craftsman Osawa Kakuhisa at the age of 11 and became a tweezers craftsman. At the time, there were many craftmen known as tweezers blacksmiths in Asakusa, but their numbers dropped dramatically after the Great Kanto Earthquake and World War II. However, Yonekichirou had 11 children, six of whom, including his eldest son Fukutaro (the second generation), became tweezers craftsmen, and the Kurata clan became well-known in the tweezers industry after the war.
Currently, Kurata Seisakujo is run by father and son, Yoshiyuki, the third generation, and Masashi, the fourth generation, and they are the only hand-forged tweezers craftsmen in Japan.
